On Tuesday morning, renowned political analyst, Mutahi Ngunyi, apologised to members of the Luo community over a controversial post he put up last week against the entire community and its political leadership.
The post by Ngunyi sparked an online storm after the remarks were tagged as those amounting to hate speech. The post suggested that members of the Luo community are “slaves” of CORD leader, Raila Odinga.
According to a source at State House, President Uhuru Kenyatta reached out to Mutahi Ngunyi through a proxy and forced him to apologise to the Luo community before telling him to his face that he doesn’t want anyone dividing the nation.
Mutahi was lectured for some minutes by the State House conduit and this forced him to eat a humble pie and apologise to the Luo Nation.
“I apologize to the LUO NATION unreservedly. No harm INTENDED. I am a product of Luo SCHOLARS whom I RESPECT immensely. I eat the HUMBLE PIE.“ Mutahi posted after Uhuru’s lecture.
Although a section of the Luo community members have refused to accept this apology, a number of them have welcomed Mutahi’s apology saying he is setting a good example to other hate mongers.
Mutahi Ngunyi is one of the advisers of Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Ms Anne Waiguru.
Mutahi and Waiguru are alleged to have siphoned Sh 38 million from the National Youth Service (NYS), a claim that the two have denied.
