It has been trying times for the media fraternity in the past one year or so with top journalists and news anchors being fired left-right and center from all the major Kenya media groups.
What surprised Kenyans was when details emerged that Kenya’s number one television station, Citizen TV,had fired four of their top cream reporters something which has sparked anxiety and panic in the media sector.
Standard Group (SG) and Nation Media Group (NMG) last year conducted mass retrenchment following the forced migration to digital platform which reportedly affected their revenues adversely.
Moreover,Citizen TV and other media houses has been making losses amounting to millions of shillings over the past
one year due to reduction of advertisement revenue from major advertisers who have now resorted to online advertising and other lucrative digital platforms.
Their first step came with relieving duties of top Citizen TV reporters namely; Evelyne Wambui, Kendagor Obadiah, Pheona Kenga And Patrick Injendi.
Credible sources also intimate that this was just the beginning as more layoffs are due to come.
We however wish Evelyne Wambui, Kendagor Obadiah, Pheona Kenga And Patrick Injendi all the best in their en devours and we hope they shall find their way back into the media sector once again.
