Kinangop in Nyandarua County erupted when over 300 youths raided the home of a female Bishop claiming Governor Daniel Waithaka was holed up there on the night of October 19.
The incident on the eve of Mashujaa Day caused anxiety in Engineer town, forcing armed police to intervene and disperse the youths who were baying for the blood of Governor Waithaka outside Bishop Rahab Muthoni’s house.
Witnesses said that trouble started after word went round that the governor had been spotted entering the home of the Bishop at around 9pm Monday night.
Area youths who for long have accused the governor of marginalising the area ganged up and headed to the home located a few kilometres from Engineer town where they found a vehicle belonging to the county government parked outside the home of the renowned cleric.
According to Albert Mwaura, one of the youth leaders, they had reliable information that the governor had paid the cleric a ‘courtesy’ call.
“For months, we have been seeking an audience with the governor so that we can share our problems and needs with him, but he has been unavailable,” he said, adding that they mobilised themselves and went into the home so that he could address them.
Governor Waithaka refuted the reports of him being caught having s3x with the bishop to be malicious and aimed at tarnishing his name. “I wish to state categorically that at no time was I in the vicinity of Bishop Muthoni’s compound. This report is not only evil and satanic, but it is malicious and calculated to malign my character and standing, not just as Governor of Nyandarua County, but as a principled person and family man,” said Governor Waithaka
